Things I'm learning about working with clients

Thought for the day...

When it comes to submitting what you believe to be perfectly good design solutions to a client and they don't seem to be as into your design as you. Feeling like you want to chuck a big tanty or even actually going there and chucking a big tanty (even if only on the inside) does not negate the reatity that you still need to front up at some point in the not too distant future with a new and more effective design solution.

Quote of the day

'Great innovations, powerful interactions and real art are often produced by someone in a state of wonder. Looking around with stars in your eyes and amazement at the tools that are available to you can inspire generosity and creativity and connection.' -

Art and Justice

Went to a fun local Byron art exhibition in a house at Suffolk Park tonight. Good art, live music, a few drinks and good company makes for a good night! I went with no expectation but wasn't disapointed. There woud have been at least 150-200 people there.
It was hosted by one of the artist's, a photographer called Kat who I've decided is a bit of a legend.

I was inspired!!!

Inspired on many levels. Inspired by artists just getting out there and having a go... but mainly inspired by the fact that ALL proceeds from the night are being donated to a charity.

I have for a long time felt that for me personally there needs to be (and on some days when I really get stired up I think there MUST be) a connection between the arts and justice... I saw it again tonight and I was stired. Stired to think about what that means for me as an artist and a designer.

Hopefully stired not just to think but to act...

The secret of Kells

I whatched the (animated) film ' The Secret of Kells' last night,WOW!!! It's so beautiful and extremely creative!!! (It's in some ways what got me going on the rant I just posted about needing a creativity upgrade)

I want to watch it again and freeze every frame so I can just drink in the beauty of some of the shots... (yep, I know, sad but true!!! : ) )

I thought it had quite a powerful message too... about how creativity can be a a source that releases freedom. How we need to overcome fear to access new levels of creativity. When we are able to do this it brings freedom not only to ourselves but also those around us...and possibly even the generations to come.
This may come at a price, we may have to take risks and inevitably there will be obsticles (sometimes in the form of people who love us but don't fully understand). These must be counted, taken and overcome if we are ever going to fully access this the new.

And to top things off it has a very sweet little ranga as the lead character.

So as you can see I'm a fan.

I pulled up a few of images off google for you to enjoy...

How?

I really NEED some creative breakthrough in my world right now!!!

I desperately want a creativity upgrade... I'm frustrated with where I'm at, I'm not satisfied, I don't want to stay in this place, the place where everything I do or make or draw or design just looks the same to me... but the million dollar question is: how do you bust throughso you can take it to that next level?

How when we have always been shown and told how and what to think and what is good and what is right or wrong do we break into a new creative expression... How do we gain the courage and confidence to step out and trust our creative instinct.

I think part of it is ... Just do it!!!

but sometimes that's easier said than done...

Everything I 'just do' these days seems to still look the same...
don't worry I haven't lost hope!!! I'm going to keep pressing through I know there is so much more to tap into...

I know that I'm not the first to feel this way... and for that matter probably wont be the last.

Ruah Cards

Something exciting that has been happening lately is that I've finally started a range of greeting cards. So far I only have them in one shop in Byron (called 'Handmade in Byron Bay') But it's a start. I'll post some photos soon. This is the logo at the moment.

Ruwach is a hebrew word it means spirit or breath. It is the word to describe the Spirit of God at creation. It also refers to life, courage, prophecy and the divine impartation of spiritual gifts and abilities. So in essence it is about spiritual creativity and to me I also see it as a partnering with the Spirit of Christ who is the spirit of creation and creativity.

I want my cards to be beautiful and whimsical and to bring joy, life, courage/encouragement and inspiration.

The cool story behind the name is that I didn't know what it meant originally when I chose it for a name for my cards. So it was an added bonus when one of my friends told me she had found this meaning for it.

Below is one of the images I also have the brown tree (previously posted) and the crown on my page heading...
